Peter Aston

Peter Aston

Full member G.A.S.W (Group Analysis South West), Inst GA supervisor. DipCOT.

Peter has been in clinical practice for over 30 years, in the private sector as well as the NHS. He trained as an occupational therapist originally, specialising in working within psychiatry, before qualifying as a psychotherapist. He works with adults individually, as well as in groups, from a psychodynamic perspective. He is also trained in Mentalisation Based Therapy. Peter is registered and accredited by the United Kingdom Counselling and Psychotherapy and Group Analysis South West.

Since 2012, Peter has lectured, run seminars and experiential workshops on understanding the psychoanalytic dynamics within groups and organisations. He has also facilitated groups for GP’s under stress.

Throughout his career, Peter has worked in secondary care settings as well as inpatient units and has a wealth of experience in working with the complete spectrum of mental health conditions. From relationship issues to mood related problems such as burnout, depression, anxiety disorders and different forms of self-harm including suicide. He has a particular interest in working with personality disorders and trauma. Within his current NHS role, Peter is the Professional Lead to a team of highly skilled clinicians who specialise in this complex area.

Peter maintains a robust interest in lifelong learning and making this available to other psychotherapists through his contribution to psychotherapy trainings. He offers clinical supervision to fellow professionals. Peter is with us at CoHS on a Friday and offers face to face as well as online appointments.
