Dr Abigail Freeman

BSc, MSc, DClinPsych, C.Psychol

Abbey is an experienced clinical psychologist who has worked in both Bath and London across a range of secondary and tertiary NHS settings. She is a visiting researcher at University College London, having previously held a position as a clinical research fellow alongside a clinical position. She has been an honorary clinical lecturer at the University of Bath.

In addition to working with the most common mental health issues we all face such as depression and anxiety disorders, Abbey specialises in working with psychosis and bi-polar disorder. Abbey tends to use Cognitive Behavioural and Compassion Focused Therapies in her work, and is trained to deliver family interventions for clients and their families. More recently, she has focused on developing specialist skills in early intervention and the prevention of mental health conditions.

With her MSc in clinical neuroscience and doctoral research combined, Abbey has in depth knowledge of the relationship between substance use and mental health. She has published several high impact publications over the past 10 years, including research on psychological treatments for mental health disorders and the relationship between substance use and mental health.

Having grown up in her native South Africa, Abbey went on to study all three of her psychology degrees in London. Following her BSc, Abbey worked for 4 years as a medical journalist in the City, investigating and reporting on the pharmaceutical industry for the Financial Times Group. She then returned to her clinical training, qualifying in 2019. Abbey therefore brings a unique and valuable commercial awareness to her clinical role.

Abbey works in our Bath clinic and sees clients face-to-face as well as online.
