Dr Boguslaw Potoczny
BSc, PhD
Boguslaw is accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the Institute of Group Analysis, London. He is a psychodynamic psychotherapist and group analyst with over a decade of experience in the NHS and private sector, specialising in both individual and group therapy. He has extensive expertise in working with individuals facing depression, suicidality, anxiety, relationship difficulties, stress, addiction and life transitions. He is particularly experienced in working with clients who face complicated emotion regulation difficulties and personality problems, such as borderline and narcissistic.
Boguslaw largely works from a psychodynamic perspective, incorporating a systemic approach into both his individual and group work. Prior to training as a psychotherapist, he was an academic, involved in research and publication. He holds a PhD in Social Science, which enhances his understanding of individuals and groups within a broader geographical and socioeconomic framework. This, combined with his psychodynamic training, deepens his understanding of people's experience from different cultural backgrounds.
Since immigrating to the UK, Boguslaw has been living not only geographically but also culturally and spiritually distanced from his birthplace - a move that so commonly brings a complex sense of loss of the familiar meanings and connections once known. He brings this rich understanding of feelings of alienation and the struggle to find a sense of belonging to his therapeutic work with clients.
Boguslaw supervises therapeutic practitioners and teaches Group Dynamics at the Institute of Integrated Systemic Therapy. He also facilitates groups for clinical psychology trainees at Canterbury Christ Church University. He has recently written for the International Journal of Psychotherapy, on the topic of shame.
Boguslaw is bilingual and offers therapy in Polish too. He works with Change of Harley Street on Saturdays.
